Watch our hour-long Master Class with Nonsensical’s Senior Account Manager, Chloe Belchamber and Head of Partnerships, Melina Lee to to discover how brands can create organic content that is scalable for TikTok.

Watch the replay and check out our summary below.

Here are our key takeaways:

Never follow the logic

Following the logic when it comes to making content takes you to a safe place and where everyone else is playing. To really thrive and stand out on TikTok, go somewhere completely unexpected with your content.

For a cocktail bar TikTok account that targets bartenders, instead of just making content that shares bar tenders expertise – making different drinks for example (which would be the logic), ask yourself is that interesting enough, watching that may not be entertaining for them.

Instead, an interesting take would be taking a bartenders pain point/running joke that “the customer is always right” and taking this idea in an unexpected direction. We used this idea on our client and quizzed members of the public on how well they knew alcohol brands and to guess the brand based on the logo (which some did get wrong to bartenders delight).

This turned into be a really engaging content style and the results were outstanding with 4M views across the series.

Get inspired

When coming up with content ideas, it’s okay to take inspiration from elsewhere. Look at what content is out there that relates to your brand – how they have done it first and how have they done it differently.

This can give you an idea of what exciting content is out there, what your audience is responding to and resonating with and maybe an extra idea of something new to test.

Follow brands, creators and community pages that are posting interesting and entertaining content and adjust it to your strategy and add your own spin on it.

Scalable ideas are key

Think about what format is the easiest for your brand to maintain for example – don’t go down the high production route if it’s difficult to achieve. Carousels for example are a simple yet extremely effective style if that is all your brand has capacity for – make it easy.

Also think about content ideas that are scalable and can be made into different parts. Can you turn your content into a series? This will make your strategy a whole lot easier.

This also allows you not only capture content in bulk but also repurpose content at a later date, especially if it’s working.

Create attention triggers

Grab users attention with questions or something relatable that stands out to them. E.g. saying something controversial, pronouncing something wrong on purpose.

This helps watch time, engagement in the comments and will encourage users to come back to your video.

Quiz and challenge videos that ask questions are a great example as this immediately invites engagement and audience participation.

Work smarter with AI

Remember, AI is a great tool for you as a starting point for ideas, but it is not a ideas generator.

It will give you the most common answers but is is then your job to turn this into a final product.

Community management – You can also use ChatGPT as a resource when you receive comments you don’t know how to respond to!
