Here are our key takeaways:
Understand who your audience is
Understanding your audience is KEY for building a community and successful community management on TikTok.
Listen directly to what they tell you and adapt this into your content.
Find out where your audience exist on TikTok and what they find relatable e.g. Uni students will be looking at Uni jobs, nightlife, relationships.
Understand who you are speaking for
This is about understanding who your brand is, brand values and establishing the right tone of voice on TikTok.
Think about how you want to talk and interact with your audience – are you a friend or are you teaching them something?
While trends are also important, being selective with trends also help frame your personality as a brand.
When you understand who you are speaking for, identifying relevant trends becomes easier.
Invest time in interacting with other content
Community management is more than just replying comments in your own comment section.
Show up in other places on platform and insert yourself into these conversations – interact with other brands and big voices in your space.
Invest time in getting those top comment moments with witty responses or providing value, where the audience will then instantly want to visit your page as a response.
Be welcoming in your responses
It’s crucial to take the time to respond properly and be human and relatable in your answers.
Where possible, spark conversations with your audience in the comments to let them know you care and that they are being listened to.
Address relatable pain point/passionate points
Ensure you are being relatable and tailoring your content to address what your audience’s pain points or passionate points are with to help build your community.
For example, we worked with a client whose audience was obsessed with Gossip Girl, so try to weave this into their content as much as possible to address their passionate points.
Be as topical as possible – we can foreshadow these big moments – Olympics, Met Gala etc.
It’s about planning ahead and having those meme templates ready for maximum results.
Be social
Unsurprisingly, it is important for a brand to be social on social media!
Don’t always rely on inbound messages or piggybacking off other content.
Get involved, join in on the discussion and be proactive.
Be consistent in frequency
That first hour after posting is crucial when responding to comments.
If you can’t reply within the first hour, ensure every single comment is replied to within the first 24 hours.
Block some time out everyday – check inbounds, DMs, make this a daily task.
This could be the first impression someone gets of you brand, so you want to ensure it’s a good one.
Any reply you make prompts users to come back to your videos, meaning more engagement.
Even if someone is having a go at you, reply! It’s still an opportunity for engagement.
Bonus tip: use Chat GPT to help prompt witty responses when replying to comments.
Know your brand limitations
Ask yourself – does this response sound like my brand or am I forcing it?
Avoid using language you don’t want to associate with and come across as inauthentic.
Does it make sense to use this language, is this trend right for us?
If you are second guessing it’s not worth it!
