Is TikTok Challenging YouTube With Horizontal Video Feature? - Nonsensical

Is TikTok Challenging YouTube With Horizontal Video Feature?

As a TikTok agency, we are aware of the growing trend towards horizontal TikTok videos, which offer a unique viewing experience and engage audiences in new ways.

TikTok has been prompting and incentivising creators to post videos in landscape format that are more than a minute long.

Screenshots shared by users suggest that the platform, which initially gained popularity for promoting full-screen vertical videos, is now encouraging certain creators to shift towards horizontally shot content.

The majority of YouTube videos typically exceed 10 minutes in duration, often seen in formats like “a week in the life” vlogs, primarily driven by monetisation incentives, unlike the shorter, bite-sized content characteristic of TikTok.

We are now seeing a shift on TikTok for these longer form content videos and creator incentives with the introduction of the Creativity Program Beta

With Creativity Program Beta, creators have the potential to collect rewards as they create and publish longer video content.

It’s unlikely this experiment suggests TikTok is looking to move away from its core format, and instead, it’s likely to create new content opportunities.

Following its recent 30-minute video experiment, it’s another element to add to the app’s development and keep things fresh and intriguing.

With horizontal videos and an increasing preference for longer content as seen with the likes of Reesa Teesa and her 50 part series, we may start to see a shift in creators from YouTube to TikTok.
