How to Register as a TikTok Shop Seller
A step-by-step walkthrough of the TikTok Shop seller registration process, with practical tips for getting approved quickly and avoiding common pitfalls.
Becoming a TikTok Shop seller opens up one of the UK’s fastest-growing e-commerce channels. But the registration process involves several stages, and small mistakes can delay your approval by days or even weeks.
This guide covers the full seller sign-up process for the UK market, including the documentation you’ll need, common stumbling blocks, and what to do immediately after you’re approved to start generating sales.
Before You Start: What You’ll Need
Gather these before beginning the registration process:
For limited companies: your Companies House registration number, your company’s registered address, a director’s government-issued photo ID (passport or driving licence), a UK business bank account in the company name, and your company’s VAT number (if VAT registered).
For sole traders: your National Insurance number or UTR number, a government-issued photo ID, proof of address (utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months), and a business bank account.
Having these ready before you start will save you from getting partway through and having to stop.
The Registration Process
1. Create Your Seller Centre Account
Go to the TikTok Shop Seller Centre (seller-uk.tiktok.com). You can register using your existing TikTok account, a phone number, or an email address. If you already have a TikTok Business account for your brand, using the same login keeps everything connected.
2. Select Your Business Type
Choose between “Individual/Sole Trader” and “Corporate” (limited company). This determines which documents you’ll need to submit. If you’re a registered limited company, always select Corporate, as this unlocks additional features and higher selling limits.
3. Enter Your Business Information
Fill in your legal business name (exactly as it appears on your Companies House or HMRC registration), business registration number, registered address, and primary contact details. Accuracy here is critical. Any mismatch between your submitted information and official records will trigger a manual review.
4. Upload Verification Documents
Upload your ID documents and business registration proof. Use high-resolution images or PDFs. Every corner of each document should be clearly visible. Avoid flash glare on laminated documents.
5. Identity Verification
You’ll be asked to complete a live identity check, which involves taking a selfie that’s matched against your submitted photo ID. This is standard KYC (Know Your Customer) procedure and is processed automatically in most cases.
6. Bank Account Verification
Add your business bank account details for receiving payouts. TikTok will make a small verification deposit (usually a few pence) to confirm the account is valid and matches your business name.
7. Wait for Approval
Standard approval takes 2-5 business days. You’ll receive email notification when your account is approved or if additional information is needed. During peak periods (particularly around major shopping events), processing times can extend to 7-10 business days.
After Approval: Your First Steps
Once your seller account is active, take these steps immediately to start building momentum:
Upload your product catalogue. TikTok reviews new product listings individually, so get them submitted early. Each product review takes 24-48 hours.
Set up your affiliate programme. Activate your affiliate open plan with competitive commission rates. This lets creators start promoting your products immediately.
Configure your shipping settings. Set realistic dispatch and delivery timeframes. TikTok tracks your fulfilment performance, and poor logistics will hurt your visibility.
Link your TikTok Business account. Connect your seller account to your TikTok Business profile so you can create shoppable content directly from your brand account.

Common Sign-Up Problems and How to Fix Them
Application rejected for “mismatched information”: Double-check that your business name, registration number, and address match your official records exactly. Even punctuation differences (“&” vs “and”) can cause issues.
Identity verification failing: Ensure you’re in a well-lit environment with a plain background. Remove glasses if your ID photo doesn’t show them. Use the same device throughout the verification process.
Bank account not verifying: The account holder name must match your registered business name. If you use a trading name that differs from your registered name, use your registered name for TikTok Shop.
Products rejected in review: Check TikTok’s prohibited and restricted products list. Common issues include health claims on beauty/wellness products, missing safety certifications, and incorrect product categorisation.
Scaling After Launch
Getting set up is just the starting point. The brands that grow quickly on TikTok Shop invest in three areas: building a strong affiliate creator network, launching regular live shopping sessions, and creating consistent shoppable content through their brand account.
Combining all three creates a flywheel effect where each channel reinforces the others, driving compound growth.
