Let’s face it, TikTok is the biggest social media platform today! It isn’t used in the same way that other ‘traditional’ platforms are used, which makes it even more confusing.
But what makes TikTok so successful? Well, imagine if somebody had invented an app that only ever showed you things that only YOU want to see, that would be amazing, right?
TikTok’s homepage is called the ‘For You Page’, where the content shown on the page is quite literally For You! TikTok use a pin-perfect algorithm with the aim to only show videos that the individual viewer would enjoy. The more videos you watch, like, comment on and share, the more the algorithm understand who you are as a viewer.
Here are some tips to help you get started or improve the content you are producing.
If you’d like more then we also offer TikTok training as well.
Lighting
Use a window or a softbox lighting in front of your face. Good lighting makes a huge difference!
Sounds
Use trending songs and sounds, this gives you a great chance for discovery.
You can also use original sounds so people can mime over your voice.
Effects
TikTok is a community and a lot of audiences relate to the effects you can use. For example, a trending effect is the BIG HEAD. If you can find a creative way of using it, what you’re saying will be more relatable. Also, it’s just funny to have a massive head.
A hook
I call this “The Mr Beast Effect”. One of the many reasons why Mr Beast gets millions of views on YouTube is because he tells the audience at the start what they’re about to watch. This is called a hook. You don’t have to do this on every single video you do, however, it’s a great way to stop people from skipping to the next video as they’re now fully aware about what they’re going to watch. Remember to keep this a short as possible as you only have a maximum of 60 seconds!
Video Replies
This feature is an amazing way to help connect with your audience. It’s also a great way to get ideas on future videos but even better, it helps the viewer know that they’ve just joined a conversation half way through and they can click on the comment to watch the original video too.
Stitching and duetting
These features are amazing for creativity. We’ll start with Stitch… Stitch is where you can add someone else’s video in front of yours. By doing this, you can do many things like add your opinion or creatively continue the story or conversation.
Duet is when you use someone else’s video and have yours playing at the same time, meaning you can dance together, sing in harmony or just be there arm while they’re talking.
Hashtags
Find a trending hashtag and make a video about that. Try not to use trending hashtags if your video isn’t relevant to it. A lot of creators do this and it’s just wasted space.
Text
Use text to appear on certain Spike Words. This is great to highlight to your audience the importance of what you’re saying.
Have fun on TikTok, try not to make too many dances!
