TikTok’s Influence On Pop Culture

TikTok has enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity as Generation Z turned to the app to occupy themselves during the various lockdowns around the world, becoming the catalyst for TikTok’s influence on pop culture.

Although primarily regarded as a platform for kids to create silly dances or something for older generations to sneer at, TikTok is much more.

People are finally starting to see that.

TikTok’s influence on pop culture, from the music industry down to the vernacular people communicate with each other, proves how crucial it is for brands and people of all ages to be there.

Did you know that the 55-year age group is the fastest-growing age group on TikTok?

TikTok’s Influence On Pop Culture: The Proof

It was a viral trend on TikTok to use the pop song Driver’s License by Olivia Rodrigo.

This trend was a huge catalyst for skyrocketing the song to No.1 on the Billboard charts for eight consecutive weeks.

Similar treatment happened to ‘About Damn Time’ by Lizzo with a viral dance craze being the main contributor to its 236 million streams.

How about thousands of people turning up to the newest Minions movie in a full suit?

This stemmed from a joke on TikTok that has become so widespread that it’s reached people worldwide. (Please don’t ask us to explain this trend, accept them for what they are 😂)

So, TikTok’s influence on pop culture seems to bypass cultures, and not to be entirely cheesy, but it’s bringing people together regardless of country or language.

Phrases like “I simp for Steve Harrington,” which means, ‘I’d do anything for Steve Harrington,” and the widespread ‘Karen’ meme.

The Karen meme is about describing an older woman who is often causing a scene for customer service employees. ‘Karen’ as an adjective has become a part of our everyday vernacular because of the TikToks that have gone viral.

What was once a joke in one place in the US, is now a joke worldwide, because of TikTok.

A Note To Brands

The type of virality that TikTok offers artists, films, brands and slang is unmatched compared to other platforms like Instagram.

We can’t think of a movement quite like the insanity of the current Minion trend that’s been started on Instagram.

It doesn’t make sense for brands to ignore the influence of TikTok on pop culture.

You want to be at the forefront of creating your own movements and being up-to-date on how to connect with all generations!

Building your brand awareness on TikTok will keep you in the know!
